deposit slipsDeposit slips are available in several formats in business size. If you are using QuickBooks or one of the other Intuit programs like QuickBooks, there are even laser or inkjet deposit slips that can make your life infinitely easier. The only problem with them is that QuickBooks laser deposit slips will only accomodate eighteen entrys for checks and retail businesses usually need more spaces. So for those kinds of businesses, booked deposit slips are the obvious answer. Some of these slips will take up to 32 check entries. Most folks who use booked slips purchase the NCR duplicate ones so they will have a record of what they wrote in case there is a discrepancy when the checking account statement arrives. There are businesses who, for internal reasons, use three and four part NCR slips. What many in business do not know is that on deposit slips there is an extra MICR field available to the left side of the ABA or routing number. That field is wonderful to use if you have multiple stores or locations all depositing independently to the same checking account. In that case you would have deposit slips made up for each location and utilize the extra field to show which store or location the deposit came from. It's simple to set up although you may have to work your way through several customer service representatves at your bank before you find one who knows about the field's availability. Then, after getting the fields set up - usually four digits are used for each store or location in most banks - you have to find an economical source for the slips, a source which understands about the extra fields. You'd think that would be easy . . . but it is not. Whatever you do, don't order them from the bank. You'll pay a high premium for them through the bank and they still might not come back correctly. Go online to www.CheckChecks.com and give them a call to arrange for these to be done. You won't be able to place this type of deposit slips order on-line but the prices are the same as regular slips. One more note on deposit slips. If you are using a P.O. Box for your address on the slips, use a street address instead and make sure you have a phone number on them as well. Why? Imagine losing a deposit . . . maybe just checks, maybe checks and cash. There it sits in the parking lot where it fell out when you went for that latte coffee. When someone finds it their first instinct might be to return it to the address on the slip or to give you a call.
