Checkbook registers can be several things. Some call checkbook registers the small, wallet style book that comes with personal checks. Others consider checkbook registers the 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" books that come with some business size three on a page manual checks without stubs. Or the smaller one that comes with personal size three on a page checks without stubs. But for most people, checkbook registers are the journals that one-write checks peg down on top of that record the critical information from pegboard or one-write checks as they are written. Most of these checkbook registers are single sheets but a few come in sets of two with NCR coatings to make an extra copy for off-site data entry. Checkbook registers come in many versions. There are usually at least three different ones for each style check and there are well over three hundred different check styles representing several different manufacturers. On checkbook registers there is an identifying form number usually at the lower left but sometimes along the left side of the form beside the peg holes. It's critical to get this number when ordering because there are so many of these forms that look almost identical but which have differences that cause problems in registration when used with the wrong checks. Despite the huge increase in software programs and resultant laser or continuous check use, pegboard or one-write systems are still popular with both large and small businesses. Not all business check companies understand these systems however. One place where you can get the checkbook registers you need for any of the various manufacturers is www.CheckChecks.com. Give them a call for these forms however as it is very easy to order the wrong form.
