What makes up a check and where should you look to find reasonable but safe ones? A personal check is what most of us are familiar with. A check, personal or otherwise, has to be imaged on a specific weight paper, be within certain height and width parameters, contain a MICR printed or imaged field and meet a whole bunch of other requirements specified in a new law Congress passed called "The Check 21 Act". The big change is that you will no longer have a cancelled check returned to you. Instead your check will be scanned and a reduced image will come back with your bank statement. The processing requirements of the law will reduce the "float" you used to get when you could mail off a check for payment of a bill and run down to the bank a few days later to deposit enough money to cover it.
